Frequently Asked Questions
- Are you an easy professor?
No. - Um...could you elaborate a bit?
An easy teacher is someone who doesn't challenge students. I will challenge you. To do well in my class will require hard work. I will require you to understand concepts and be able to think through problems. However, if you have met the prerequisites for a particular course you should be up to the challenge. What I strive for as a teacher is to be tough but fair. - What is the best way to do well in your class?
Come to class, do the work, study. Most importantly, ask questions when you don't understand something. Effort is important, but I grade on understanding. - Whenever I ask you a question in lab, you reply with a question instead of giving me the answer. Why won't you just answer my question?
Ah, that is all part of my master plan. It can be frustrating at first, but over time you will notice that what I am really doing is asking you leading questions. If you think about the questions I ask, you will figure out the answer to your own questions. Labs serve a different purpose than lectures. In lectures I simply present information. In labs I want you to apply your learning to new problems. If you're still confused about something, keep asking questions. If you keep struggling I will eventually give you the answer, but I want you to try figuring it out on your own first. - Where is your office?
In building 86, room 1139. Building 86 can be hard to find, since it is tucked away a bit. Here is a map:
- What are your office hours?
Check my schedule. Keep in mind my office hours are times when you can show up and expect to find me. We can also meet at other times if you schedule ahead of time.
